Awards Announcement and Online Electronic Research Application Information for 2008-2009

 The American Lung Association of Florida (ALAF) is now accepting applications for research projects in the areas of epidemiology, prevention, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of lung disease, and behavioral/social science/environmental studies. Projects will be funded for the association's fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008.  

Online application submission and appropriate copies must reach the ALA National (NY) office by September 4, 2007.  All applications are required to be submitted electronically through proposalCENTRAL.

RESEARCH TRAINING FELLOWSHIP AWARDS

  • Research Training Fellowship Awards are for fellows who have completed two years participation in an ACGME (Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education) approved clinical training program related to pulmonary diseases. Awards are in the amount of $45,000. The award will be made on the merit of the research proposed, the research environment and the experience of the sponsor. Applicants cannot simultaneously apply for both Seed Grant and Research Training Fellowship Awards. Click here for Award Criteria and Application Guidelines

SEED GRANT AWARDS
  • Seed Grant Awards are for young investigators with a budget limitation up to $25,000. A young investigator may be an M.D., Ph.D., Sc.D., R.N., or have comparable qualifications, at the faculty level who is within five years of completion of the appropriate training; less than an associate professor; and without other substantial financial support. YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANT AWARDS
  • Young Investigator Grant Awards have a budget limitation up to $30,000 and are granted to entry-level faculty members (Instructor or Assistant Professor) who are not established independent investigators. Applicants may be an M.D., Ph.D., Sc.D., R.N., or have comparable qualifications, at the faculty level, within seven years of completion of the appropriate training, and without other substantial financial support.   • Award Type: Local Association Award - Research Grant-Clinical Grant
 CAREER INVESTIGATOR GRANT AWARDS 
  •  Career Investigator Grant Awards are for established investigators within a budget limitation up to $75,000. These awards are granted to independent investigators with protected research time who are making the transition from junior to mid-level faculty positions (Assistant or Associate Professor). A career investigator may be an M.D., Ph.D., or Sc.D., or have comparable qualifications. One and two-year funding is available. Click here for Award Criteria and Application Guidelines
  •  Award Type: Local Association Award - Career Investigator

  BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH, SOCIAL SCIENCE, OR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES GRANTS

  • Behavioral Research, Social Science or Environmental Studies Grants are in the amount of $60,000 to support investigators in the fields of science related to behavioral, social, and environmental conditions. The research supported may be clinical, laboratory, epidemiological, social, behavioral or environmental but must be relevant to the conquest of lung disease and the promotion of lung health. The applicant must be a professional with a faculty position in an academic or related program with access to an approved institutional review board. Previous research experience is mandatory. A terminal degree in the field of behavioral, social science, or environmental studies is desirable. One and two-year funding is available. Click here for Award Criteria and Application Guidelines
