The Florida Thoracic Society is composed of physicians, researchers, advanced practice nurses, respiratory therapists and other health care professionals interested in fulfilling the Society’s mission.  FTS members work in academic institutions, private practices, hospitals and scientific research settings throughout Florida.

The FTS website hosts an online resource where members can connect and communicate, post event announcements and share resources.

 

Florida Thoracic Society members receive a preferred rate when attending the annual Tri-State and Pulmonary WinterCourse CME conferences.

 

FTS NEWS – quarterly electronic publication.  FTS members’ opportunity to publish, post and be informed.

 

Opportunities to contribute to efforts of the American Lung Association of Florida toward the prevention and control of lung disease.

Membership Categories


Active - Open to individuals who possess an M.D., D.O., Ph.D., or equivalent degree. All must have evidenced an interest in lung disease and be active members of the Florida Medical Association (FMA). Active members of the American Thoracic Society who are also active members of the FMA are automatically enrolled as active members of the Florida Thoracic Society.  Members are considered active upon receipt of dues and approval by the FTS Executive Committee.

Provisional - Open to individuals who possess an M.D., D.O., Ph.D., or equivalent degree who are not a member of the Florida Medical Association but otherwise have met all requirements for Active membership. Provisional status for membership shall not exceed three (3) years without approval of the Executive Committee of the FTS. During this time period, the provisional members will be encouraged to become active members with full rights.

Associate - Open to nurses, paramedical personnel, graduate students, medical students, interns, residents and fellows during their period of training, respiratory therapists, pulmonary technicians, and other qualified health care personnel. Associate membership includes all privileges of Active membership, except for voting and holding office upon receipt of dues and approval by the FTS Executive Committee

Senior - Open to active members who have retired and requested the Executive Committee, in writing, for transfer to Senior membership. Senior members shall have all the privileges of Active members with the exception of voting and holding office. Dues are not required of Senior Members.

Honorary – Open to those individuals who have obtained special recognition in respiratory diseases. They shall be recommended for membership by the Executive Committee, and elected by a majority vote of the membership at the Annual Meeting of the Society. They shall not be entitled to vote or hold office.
