Florida Thoracic Society

The Florida Thoracic Society (FTS), a chapter of the American Thoracic Society (ATS), is a professional medical organization with its membership consisting of physicians and other qualified health professionals, dedicated to improving the lives of patients with lung disease through advocacy, education and research.

Since 1947, the Florida Thoracic Society has served as the medical section of the American Lung Association of Florida, Inc. (ALAF) acting in an advisory capacity to the Board of Directors.

FTS members actively support the ALAF by serving on local boards and committees, raising funds and making financial contributions, providing patient education, developing position papers, reviewing documents for scientific merit, providing testimony before the Florida legislature, advocating for federal research funding, and serving on statewide coalitions.

Members of the Florida Thoracic Society serve on the Council of Chapter Representatives of the American Thoracic Society. The Florida Thoracic Society is an officially recognized specialty group of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) and is represented on the FMA Council of Specialty Medicine, FMA Council on Legislation and FMA Board of Governors and House of Delegates.

The Society's Chapter Administrator is located at the ALAF office in Jacksonville, Florida, and provides administrative support to the organization. The American Lung Association of Florida serves as the fiscal agent for the Society.
